Every edition of the Circular Innovation Bootcamp pairs a small team of students with a real company or institution on Tenerife. Over a preparation phase and an on-site consulting week, the team analyses the host’s sustainability and circular-economy practices and proposes concrete improvements – documented in a written consultancy report at the end of the programme. The organisations below have hosted these projects since 2022, more details in the students’ own final reports and acknowledgements.
Loro Parque
Zoological and botanical park · Puerto de la Cruz · Hosted projects in 2023, 2024, 2025
One of Europe’s best-known zoological institutions, combining animal care, conservation research and education with a major tourism operation. Student teams have examined its sustainability initiatives – plastic reduction, local sourcing (“Kilometre 0”), water use in its aquariums and marine-mammal pools, and the gap between visitor perception and the park’s actual conservation work.
Wooptix
Deep-tech optics · La Laguna, Tenerife · Hosted projects in 2023, 2024, 2025
A spin-off from astrophysics research at Universidad de La Laguna, founded in 2016. Its Wavefront Phase Imaging technology, originally built for telescope optics, is now applied to semiconductor manufacturing, optical metrology and medical imaging. Student teams have worked on circular-economy action plans, growth strategy and digital communications for the company.
TAGUA
Water management · Tenerife · Hosted projects in 2024, 2025
A company with roughly 30 years of experience in integral water management, covering the full water cycle from capture through treatment and distribution. Student projects have looked at the business model, revenue structure and environmental stewardship of the company’s operations.
EAVE
Solar energy · Tenerife · Hosted projects in 2022, 2023
A young solar-energy company (founded 2019, named after Electric Avenue) supplying photovoltaic systems, inverters and batteries to customers across the Canary Islands. Student teams researched end-of-life recycling options for PV panels and batteries – at the time largely unavailable on Tenerife – and proposed sustainability improvements to the business model.
Hotel Tigaiga
Hospitality · Puerto de la Cruz · Hosted a project in 2025
A family-run, four-star hotel operating since 1959 and recognised as a sustainability pioneer on the island, with its botanical garden at the centre of its identity. The 2025 team proposed sensor-based irrigation and a greywater-reuse pilot developed jointly with Teidagua.
BALTEN (Balsas de Tenerife)
Irrigation & water infrastructure · Tenerife-wide · Hosted a project in 2025
The island’s main irrigation utility, operating since 1988 and supplying over 90% of all agricultural water through a 1,500 km network of ponds, pipelines and desalination plants. The student team explored how solar-powered desalination and wastewater reuse could be integrated further into its operations.
Teidagua
Public water management · Tenerife · Hosted a project in 2025
A public company responsible for wastewater treatment on the island, working towards turning its treatment plants into full “biofactories” with a higher degree of energy self-sufficiency, in line with EU sustainability goals.
IACTEC (Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias)
Research & technology transfer · Tenerife · Hosted a project in 2024
The technology-transfer arm of the Institute of Astrophysics of the Canary Islands, developing scientific instrumentation and managing observatory infrastructure. The student team assessed the institute’s energy footprint – driven largely by telescopes, computing and laboratory equipment – against the stages of a regenerative economy.
PISCES VI
Marine & submarine technology · Tenerife · Hosted a project in 2024
A marine technology company built around its founder’s submarine projects. The student team worked on business development opportunities building on the company’s engineering capabilities.
STV
Technical services · Tenerife · Hosted a project in 2022
Provides technical services for Coca-Cola’s bottling and vending equipment on the island. The student team proposed a net-zero plan for its headquarters building, including on-site solar generation and emission-reduction measures for its vending machines and bottle racks.
TITSA
Public transport · Tenerife-wide · Hosted a project in 2022
Tenerife’s interurban bus operator. The student team proposed employee-engagement formats – including cross-departmental training sessions and an “idea box” – to surface sustainability and circularity ideas from staff across the company.
